A collection of bright, medium, and dark batiks designed by Hoffman Fabrics of California were used to make the quilt shown on the cover. This quilt was designed for foundation paper piecing. Curved piecing and traditional piecing are required to join the units after the foundation piecing is completed.

This packet option includes enough foundation papers, when included with the 4th of July Basic Pattern to increas the layout to 92" by 92".  It does not include the pattern instructions.  These are just the additional sheets that you will need to expand the original pattern to the queen size.

A Touch of Spring was designed by Judy and Bradley Niemeyer. We wanted to add a quilt to our collection with a simple design, a traditional look, and a touch of elegance. A collection of fabrics designed by Hoffman Fabrics of California were used to make the quilt on the cover page. A sewing technique called foundation paper piecing is used when sewing the pieces onto the foundation units. Floating Spikes and Template Layout Sheets were designed to help speed up the cutting and sewing process. Curved piecing, and traditional piecing skills are required to join the units after the foundation piecing is completed.

Judy and Brad designed the Amazon Star for foundation paper piecing. A collection of Bali Batiks designed by Hoffman California Fabrics were used to make the quilt shown on the box cover. A sewing technique called foundation paper piecing is used to assemble the units required to make this quilt. A strip piecing technique designed for foundation paper is used to piece the Lone Star units. A template layout piecing technique that I teach for foundation paper piecing is used to piece all the border spikes, Mariner's Compass and circling spikes. Traditional piecing skills will be required to join the units after the foundation piecing is completed.  It measures 104" X 104" finished.

Fabrics designed by Hoffman Fabrics of California were used to make the quilt shown on the cover. Foundation papers from a series of quilt designs called Northern Migration were used to create the setting for this quilt. The design elements for this quilt include spikes, arcs, and triangles. Foundation paper piecing is used to assemble the units required to make this quilt. Curved piecing and traditional piecing are required to join the units after the foundation piecing is completed.

Judy and Bradley Niemeyer designed the foundation papers and the foundation strip piecing technique used to make the Bali Fever. This technique was designed to use 2-1/2" by 42" strips.  All you need is 4 packages of Bali Pops or 140 - 2.5 inch strips.  You can find them by clicking here .

The Bali Wedding Star is a newly designed and updated version of our very first pattern known to many individuals as the Wedding Star. The Wedding Star pattern was designed for foundation paper piecing back in 1996 by Bradley and Judy Niemeyer. A few years ago I started teaching my students a new technique using strip piecing to complete the foundation piecing on the arcs. We also redesigned the stars with floating points. This last year, in the process of redrafting the stars, we decided to add Template Layout Sheets to speed up the cutting process for the stars and background pieces. Those of you who have worked with the old Wedding Star pattern (copyright Sept. 1997) will find these new upgrades to the Bali Wedding Star pattern very pleasant.

Bali Wedding Star Extra Foundations

One package will increase the size to 92" x 92". 

Two packages will increase the size to 104" x 104". 

Three packages will increase the size to 104" x 116". 

Four packages will increase the size to 116" x 116".

Judy and Brad Niemeyer designed the Barbed Rail Fence for foundation paper piecing. A collection of fabrics designed by Island Batik was used to make the quilt shown on the cover.

This pattern includes instructions, along with seven sheets of foundation paper, enough to complete the quilt as shown on the coversheet.  The quilt size is 66" X 78".  I have also included the instructions and yardage requirements for five additional quilt sizes.  If you choose to make a double, queen, or king size quilt you will need to purchase extra foundation sheets, which are sold separately in packages of 5 sheets.  These packages yield 60 blocks.

The Briar Patch was designed to meet the needs of a beginner at paper piecing.   However, this quilt will take a little thought as to where to place the colors, so you may want to study the information in the fabric selection before you purchase any fabric.
